Hain aur bhi duniya mein sukhanwar bohot achhe,
Kehte hain ke Ghalib ka hai andaaz-e-bayaan aur.
Mirza Ghalib (born: Mirza Asadullah Beg Khan)
27 December, 1797 – 15 February, 1869
Artists, poets, writers, are beautiful and why shouldn’t they be? They spend their entire lifetime creating works that please souls, that touch souls.
Ghalib was a preeminent Indian Urdu and Persian-language poet during the last years of the Mughal Empire.
While I am convinced that each and every sher Ghalib has ever composed is a work of sheer perfection, however below are 6 of his selected couplets.
- Humne mohabbat ke nashe mein aa kar usey khuda bana daala,
Hosh tab aaya jab usne kaha ki khuda kisi ek ka nahi hota.
- Humko ma’aloom hai jannat ki haqeeqat lekin,
Dil ke khush rakhne ko, ‘Ghalib’ ye khayaal achcha hai.
- Haan woh nahin Khuda parast, jaao woh bewafa sahi,
Jisko ho deen-o-dil azeez, uski gali mein jaaye kyun?
- Mohabbat mein nahin hai farq jeene aur marne ka,
Usi ko dekh kar jeete hain, jis kaafir pe dam nikle.
- Unhe dekh kar aati hai chehre pe raunak,
Aur woh samajhte hain beemar ka haal achha hai.
- Kitna khauf hota hai shaam ke andheron mein,
Pooch unn parindo se jin ke ghar nahi hote.
It would not be an exaggeration to say that Mirza Ghalib was definitely one of the best poets in Indian history to have ever lived. He had Mirza ka Mizaaj, Ghalib ka Ghazab.
Hui muddatt ki Ghalib marr gaya, magar yaad aata hai…
Woh harr ek baat pe kehna- ‘yun hota to kya hota…’
